xp-deus-metal-detector-with-ws5-wireless-headphones-9-x35-coil
XP Deus Metal Detector With WS5 Wireless Headphones & 9" X35 Coil

This is the XP Deus metal detector run entirely from the WS5 wireless headphones, with the 9 in X35 coil. There is no remote control in this package: the WS5 has its own screen and keypad on the earcup, so the headphones are the control box. The coil talks to the WS5 over XP's digital radio, so there is no cable anywhere on the machine, and with nothing mounted on the stem it is the lightest way to carry an original Deus.

It suits detectorists who want a light, fully wireless VLF machine for parks, fields and dry beach, and who are happy reading target ID from a small headphone screen instead of a handheld display. If you would rather have the large remote screen on the stem, look at the Deus packages with the remote control in our XP Deus collection. If you want simultaneous multi-frequency or a detector you can take underwater, the XP Deus II is the step up.

The WS5: headphones that run the whole detector

The WS5 is XP's full-size, over-ear wireless headset for the Deus. One earcup carries an LCD screen and keypad, and XP's manual says it adjusts all the main settings with a target ID display. From the WS5 you pick programs and change discrimination, sensitivity, ground balance, frequency, tones, volume, reactivity, transmit power, iron volume and audio response. XP's manual is plain about the result: performance is the same with or without the remote.

XP describes the WS5 as a full-cup headset for isolating outside noise, which helps on a windy field or a loud beach, and the headband folds for storage. XP also rates it rainproof and weatherproof. It is not waterproof, so it stays out of the water. XP lists the WS5's battery at about 15 to 27 hours depending on the Deus version, and gives a fast USB charge of about 2 hours.

Adding a remote later is still an option. XP's manual says the WS5 can select programs that were set up on a Deus remote control, so the two work together.

The 9 in X35 coil

The 9 in (22.5 cm) X35 coil runs 35 frequencies from 3.7 kHz to 27.7 kHz: five main frequencies (4, 8, 12, 18 and 28 kHz), each with offsets. You choose one at a time. The low end reaches deeper on large, high-conductivity targets such as silver coins and brass relics; the high end sharpens response on thin gold and small hammered coins. Shifting the frequency a step also sidesteps power-line noise or a nearby detector, and the Deus picks from 36 radio channels automatically so the wireless link stays clean.

The 9 in DD coil is the all-round size. It is the size we suggest for trashy parks, where a smaller coil sorts targets out between nails and pull tabs, and it is light: XP gives 370 g for the coil. The coil is waterproof to 20 ft (6 m) and carries its own lithium battery, rated at about 15 hours depending on frequency and power. When you want more coverage on open ground, the 11 in and 13x11 in X35 coils fit the same detector. Discrimination comes with notch, audio runs in multi-tone, full-tone or pitch, and iron volume lets you hear iron quietly instead of losing it. Ground balance works in manual, pumping, tracking or beach mode, and pinpointing is dynamic or one of four static modes. XP's figures differ by source: the manual gives 750 g (about 1.7 lb) for the WS5 setup with the 9 in coil, the Deus range page gives 800 g (about 1.8 lb) without the remote, and XP's Deus brochure gives 875 g (about 1.9 lb) without the remote. Call it roughly 1.7 to 1.9 lb, with the WS5 on your head, not the stem.

The S-telescopic stem collapses in about five seconds; XP says the folded detector is about 65 cm long with the 9 in coil.

Coil battery: about 15 hours, depending on frequency and power.

WS5 battery: about 15 to 27 hours, depending on the Deus version.

Charging: the coil and WS5 charge from the included USB cable.
