The Gold Bug II's 71 kHz frequency is significantly higher than most VLF metal detectors, which typically run between 5-25 kHz. This high frequency makes it exceptionally sensitive to small gold pieces that lower frequency detectors would miss completely. While it won't penetrate as deep as lower frequency machines, you'll find tiny nuggets and flakes that other prospectors walk right over.
