Lower frequencies (around 5-10 kHz) penetrate deeper and work better for large, deep targets, while higher frequencies (15-20 kHz) are more sensitive to small objects like jewelry. Most VLF detectors come preset with proven frequencies, so you don't need to worry about selection unless you have specific hunting goals.
