The Garrett AT Pro is waterproof to 10 feet and handles most beach conditions. In wet salt sand and the surf zone, it is more stable than the ACE series machines but single-frequency VLF machines including the AT Pro will generate more false signals in heavy salt conditions than simultaneous multi-frequency machines like the Minelab Equinox 800 or Nokta Legend. For occasional beach use and wading, the AT Pro works well. For serious beach hunting in demanding salt surf conditions, a multi-frequency machine is a meaningful upgrade. See beach metal detectors.
