The Minelab Equinox 800 is a significant investment for a first machine, but it is also a machine that will not limit you as your skills develop. Most first-time buyers end up upgrading from cheaper entry-level machines within a year or two anyway. If the budget is there and you are serious about the hobby, buying the Equinox 800 as a first machine means buying once rather than twice.
