If you stay on dry sand, a machine with a waterproof coil is sufficient. For hunting the wet sand and surf zone where targets concentrate, full submersion waterproofing is needed - wading into the surf with a non-submersible control box risks damage and limits where you can hunt. Most of the machines we recommend for beach detecting have full waterproofing rated to at least 10 feet rather than just waterproof coils. The productive beach ground is in the surf zone; choose a machine that can go there. See all waterproof metal detectors.
