Yes - the Garrett ATX and Sea Hunter MkII are PI machines specifically built for underwater and saltwater use. In heavy black sand and aggressive salt surf conditions, PI machines outperform VLF machines because they are not affected by the ground conductivity that causes false signals. For most recreational beach hunters, a quality multi-frequency VLF machine like the Minelab Equinox 800 handles salt beach conditions effectively and discriminates better than a PI machine.
