For the right hunter at the right sites - yes. For most recreational detectorists - probably not yet. A $600 Minelab Equinox 800 in the hands of an experienced hunter consistently outperforms a $2,000 machine in the hands of someone still developing skills. The machines at this price level are not better at everything - they are specifically better at specific things. Identify the capability that limits you at the sites you actually hunt, and upgrade to address that specific gap. If the limiting factor is skill rather than machine, more time with a capable mid-range detector is the better investment. See $400-$1,000 machines.
