For beach detecting in sandy and soft coastal soil, a stainless steel hand digger handles most targets adequately - beach sand does not require the same serrated edge cutting that turf does. Stainless steel is essential to resist corrosion from salt and wet sand. A long-handled stainless shovel is useful for deeper beach targets. Note that sand scoop tools - separate from digging tools - are used specifically for locating targets in loose sand after digging.
