Not necessarily - the Garrett Pro-Pointer AT is fully capable on both land and beach conditions. A waterproof pinpointer works on land equally well as a standard pinpointer; the waterproofing adds no disadvantage for land use. If you detect on both land and beach, a waterproof pinpointer like the Pro-Pointer AT covers both without needing two separate tools. The only case for separate tools is if you dive detect at scuba depths, where the Quest XPointer Scuba is more appropriate than the Pro-Pointer AT's 10-foot rating. See all pinpointers.
