The Quest XPointer is water-resistant, meaning it handles splash, rain, and rinsing after hunts, but it is not rated for submersion. You can wash the pinpointer under a faucet to remove mud or saltwater residue without covering the buzzer vent or LED flashlight, and the housing protects the electronics during wet-sand beach hunting. Quest designed the XPointer for daily field use in rain and damp conditions, but you should not submerge it in water or use it for underwater detecting. If you need a fully submersible pinpointer for shallow-water wading or surf hunting, look for a unit with a depth rating (typically 10 feet or more). For park, relic, and dry-to-damp beach hunting, the XPointer's water resistance is sufficient.
