The SX24 coil does not require firmware updates or special settings on Simplex-series detectors. The detector recognizes the coil automatically when you power on, and you can run your normal sensitivity, discrimination, and ground-balance settings without adjustment. Some detectorists increase sensitivity by one or two notches to take full advantage of the coil's depth capability, but this is optional and depends on ground conditions. The coil's DD configuration may let you run higher sensitivity in mineralized ground compared to the stock coil, since the DD pattern reduces ground noise.
