Adjust sensitivity higher in low-mineral soil like dry sand or black dirt for maximum depth without instability. Reduce sensitivity in moderately mineralized ground, red clay, or iron-heavy parks to keep the threshold quiet and prevent false signals. Lower sensitivity settings may be needed in highly mineralized soil, black sand, or saltwater wet sand, especially if you hear constant chatter or see erratic target IDs. Start at a moderate level, sweep a clean patch of ground, and increase sensitivity until you hear faint background noise, then back it down slightly. Ground balance every time you move to a new site or notice a change in soil color or texture.
