The protective coil cover is included with the GR26 to protect the coil from cuts, scratches, and excessive wear. We recommend installing the cover before your first hunt, especially if you're working rocky terrain or abrasive sand. The cover is cheap insurance against the expensive replacement cost of a damaged search coil, and it's much easier to replace a worn cover than to repair a scratched coil housing.
