The XP ORX works for both beginners and experienced detectorists, though it rewards operator skill more than turn-key multi-frequency detectors. Beginners can use the four factory preset programs (Gold, Fine Gold, Coin Fast, Coin Deep) and get results immediately without adjusting sensitivity, ground balance, or discrimination. Experienced hunters can customize the two user program slots, dial in manual ground balance, and select specific frequencies for their sites. The learning curve is shorter than XP's DEUS II, but longer than fully automatic detectors. If you're new to detecting, start with a preset program and add adjustments as you gain field experience.
