The Garrett Vortex VX7 is fully submersible to 16 feet (5 meters), including the control box, coil, and shaft. This waterproof rating makes the VX7 honest for shallow-water relic hunting in rivers and tide pools, not just wading at the beach. We have run ours submerged in Pacific Northwest streams and saltwater surf without issue.
