The Garrett Vortex VX5 is fully submersible to 16 feet (5 meters), which means the control box, shaft, and coil can all go underwater for shallow-water relic hunting, surf line jewelry recovery, and freshwater wading. The waterproof rating is backed by a waterproof control box and a button lock that prevents accidental mode changes during dives. We recommend a matched waterproof pinpointer like the Garrett Pro-Pointer AT for shallow-water work, as it is also waterproof for shallow-water work and speeds up target recovery.
