The Garrett ACE Apex's coil and lower shaft are fully submersible, and the control box is rated rainproof. This makes the Apex suitable for wet sand, shallow surf, and hunting in rain, but the control box should not be submerged. We treat splashes and surf spray as fair game and leave deeper wading to fully waterproof detectors. The 6x11 DD Viper coil is sealed for submersion, and the coil cable connection at the control box is weatherproof. If you plan to hunt in knee-deep water or deeper, consider a fully waterproof detector like the Garrett AT Max or AT Pro.
