The Garrett ACE 400 runs on four AA alkaline batteries, which are included in the box. Battery life is long enough for full-day hunts in normal use, and the LCD displays a battery condition indicator before audio degrades. We carry a second sleeve of four AA batteries for all-day grid work and have run NiMH rechargeable AA batteries in the 400 without issue. The control housing holds the battery compartment, so swapping batteries in the field takes under a minute.
