The retractable cable extends to allow comfortable pinpointing while clipped to your belt or bag. The cable extends to accommodate typical pinpointing positions when you're working targets at ground level. XP does not publish a maximum extension length in the product specifications. The retraction mechanism pulls the pinpointer back toward your belt automatically when you release tension, preventing the cable from dragging on the ground or snagging on brush during field use.
