Detectorists hunting rocky terrain daily may wear through a cover in 6 to 12 months, while those working softer ground or sand may get 2 years or more from a single cover. Inspect the cover after every few hunts for wear patterns, especially along the leading edge and center where ground contact is heaviest. A worn cover is far cheaper to replace than a damaged coil, so swap it out before the coil housing shows wear.
