The Lesche Sampson can be used for dry-sand beach detecting, but it's not the ideal tool for that environment. The 31-inch length and narrow blade are designed for digging in soil and gravel at relic sites and prospecting claims, not for scooping large volumes of sand. Beach hunters typically use sand scoops with wide mesh baskets that drain water and sand quickly. The Sampson's rust-resistant finish will hold up to saltwater exposure if you rinse it after use, but a dedicated sand scoop is a better fit for wet-sand and surf-zone detecting.
