Rinse both tools with water after each hunt to remove soil and organic matter, then dry them with a rag before storage. A light coat of mineral oil or WD-40 on the blades prevents surface rust during long-term storage. The aircraft-quality steel resists rust better than mild steel, but it is not stainless; moisture and soil acids will cause oxidation if you store the tools wet. Store the digging tool in its sheath to protect the edges and keep the grip clean.
