The round edge cuts through small to medium roots efficiently, but it's less effective on thick roots compared to a serrated-edge model like the Ground Shark. The tapered round edge concentrates force at the cutting surface, so you can slice through roots up to about 1 inch in diameter with repeated strikes. For roots thicker than 1 inch, you may need to chop around the root or use a saw. The self-sharpening edge stays keen enough to cut fibrous roots in wooded relic sites and urban parks with mature trees. If you hunt areas with heavy root systems, consider a serrated-edge shovel for faster root cutting.
