The Lesche Sampson shovel can be resharpened when the edge dulls, though the heat-treated blade holds its edge longer than standard steel shovels. Use a metal file or bench grinder to restore the cutting angle, working from the back of the blade toward the edge at the original bevel. The heat-treated edge is harder than the shaft, so it resists wear from rocks and roots, but it will eventually dull after hundreds of digs in abrasive soil. Avoid grinding away too much material in one session, and maintain the factory bevel angle for best cutting performance.
