Clean the Model 76 after each hunt by rinsing soil and debris from the blade and handle with water, then drying the tool thoroughly to prevent rust on the blade and corrosion on the xxxx -on cap threads. The heat-treated alloy steel blade resists rust, but prolonged exposure to wet soil or salt water can cause surface oxidation. Apply a light coat of oil to the blade and the cap threads after cleaning to protect against moisture. Inspect the Cordura sheath periodically for wear on the plastic insert, and replace the sheath if the insert cracks or the fabric tears. Store the digger in a dry location with the cap tightened to keep the hollow handle compartment clean.
