The Apex Pick Badger LT can chip at the edges of hardpan and caliche layers, but it's not the ideal tool for sustained work in extremely hard or cemented soils where a heavier pick with a thicker head (like the Apex Talon or Extreme series) delivers more breaking force per swing. The Badger LT's lighter weight and smaller head make it better suited for mixed soil conditions where you encounter occasional hard layers but aren't breaking solid caliche for hours. If your primary prospecting ground is hardpan desert or cemented gold-bearing layers, consider the Talon or Extreme series for the added head mass.
