The 5x8 Ripper ships with a protective searchcoil cover included in the box. The cover is a skid plate that prevents the coil's housing from being scratched or damaged when swept over rocks, gravel, and rough terrain. Garrett includes the cover as standard equipment with this coil, and we recommend installing it before the first hunt to preserve the coil's waterproof seal, since a deep scratch through the housing can compromise submersibility over time. The cover adds minimal weight while protecting the coil during aggressive hunting in rocky areas and stubble fields.
