Minelab Equinox 800 - Five Barbers

Minelab Equinox 800 - Five Barbers

We had unusually warm weather in Massachusetts on Saturday Jan. 10th 2020, almost 65 deg. I invited my brother to go metal detecting in an area I had been to before. The terrain was hilly and rocky with an old stone wall and some tree stumps from loggers over 100 years ago. We scoured the hillside only to find many spent shell casings and lots of shotgun brass (old style no plastic). We found out there were hot rocks everywhere , our detectors needed some tweeking to prevent falsing . Anyway, we continued detecting with not too many finds. It was around 2 p.m. when we started our way back to the car detecting along the way. There was a small spring fed brook we had to cross , I was swinging my Equinox 800 when I got a solid repeatable hit. I dug a small plug and used my Garrett pinpointer to find a nice silver barber dime. After rechecking the hole I ended up with 4 more barber dimes and 1 badly corroded V nickle. That was the most silver I ever found in 1 hole and on 1 trip. The oldest is an 1895 S , as is the V nickle the other dimes are 1906, (2) 1907, and a 1911. I will be going back when we get some warmer weather. P.S. My brother was using my Garrett AT Max.
