Why Most Coils Still Use a Cable
A wired coil is a simple thing: windings, a shell, and a cable to the control box. There is no battery inside the coil, no radio link, and no pairing routine, so the whole budget goes into the winding geometry and the shell. That simplicity is why every major brand except XP builds its machines around a cabled coil, and why a wired coil that survives its first season tends to survive ten. Living With the Cable
The cable asks for one habit: wind it in a loose spiral up the shaft, leave a small loop of slack at the coil so nothing tugs mid-sweep, and secure the top end near the control box. A cable left flapping can slap the shaft on every swing, and on a sensitive machine that knock can read as a faint target. Keep the connector threads clean, seat the plug fully, and do not crank it past snug. Do that and the cable disappears from your attention for years.
Wired or Wireless?
Truly wireless coils, where the coil itself carries the electronics and talks to the remote by radio, are essentially an XP Deus and Deus II ecosystem feature. If you swing anything else, wired is the answer, and it is no hardship: no coil battery to charge the night before, no link to drop in a park full of transmitters. The real performance decisions sit elsewhere, in shape and build.
Picking the Right Wired Coil
Shape sets the field: round gives the deepest, most symmetrical field for its size, while elliptical trades a little depth for separation in trash and reach into tight spots. Build sets the swing: open-frame saves weight, solid slides over stubble.
