My First Axe Head

My First Axe Head

I found this axe head on the property of a German immigrant who came to America in the 1860s. He purchased the land in the 1880s and built five homes on the property for himself and his children. He worked as a night watchman for the Ypsilanti Railroad Round House and his sons went on to also work for the rail road. Of those five homes, one remains today.

I found the axe head in the area behind where the main house once stood. The metal detector I used is the the Garrett AT Pro.

During the winter, I began working to remove the rust and corrosion. Without the proper equipment or knowledge to put in the finishing touches, I sent the axe head out to an expert craftsman for finishing. He did a great job and I'm very pleased with the results.
