Three new aftermarket coil options are coming for the GPX 6000 that could significantly expand your prospecting capabilities. Coiltek's Goldhawk series offers size and performance combinations not available with the stock 11" coil.
Why Aftermarket Coils Matter for the GPX 6000
The GPX 6000 ships with an excellent 11" DD coil, but different ground conditions and target types often benefit from specialized coil configurations. Mono coils like these Goldhawks typically provide better depth on smaller gold targets compared to DD designs.
Each of these three sizes addresses specific prospecting scenarios where the stock coil might not be optimal.
9" Goldhawk Mono - Tight Spaces and Trash Areas
The 9" size excels in areas where the standard 11" coil feels unwieldy. Think rocky washes, steep hillsides, or patches with scattered iron trash from old mining operations.
Despite the smaller footprint, you'll maintain excellent sensitivity to sub-gram pieces. The reduced ground coverage is offset by being able to work areas that larger coils simply can't navigate effectively.

10x5" Goldhawk Mono - The Versatile Elliptical
Elliptical coils like this 10x5" offer some of the best characteristics of both small and medium coils. The narrow 5" width gets between rocks and brush, while the 10" length maintains good ground coverage on each sweep.
This size typically offers the best target separation when working areas with multiple signals close together. It's also easier on your arm during long detecting sessions compared to larger round coils.

14x9" Goldhawk Mono - Maximum Coverage and Depth
When you need to cover ground efficiently or reach maximum depth on larger targets, the 14x9" becomes your go-to choice. This size works best in open areas with minimal obstacles.
The trade-off is increased weight and reduced maneuverability, but for working large patches or scanning for deeper targets missed by smaller coils, the extra coverage pays off. You'll detect both small flecks near the surface and larger pieces at greater depths.

Comparison with Other Minelab Detector Coil Options
While the GPX 6000 uses a unique connector system, other current Minelab detectors like the Equinox series and Manticore have extensive aftermarket coil selections. The GPX 6000's specialized pulse induction technology requires purpose-built coils, making these Goldhawks particularly valuable additions to the limited coil ecosystem.
This contrasts with older GPX models like the GPX 5000, which had numerous coil options available throughout their production runs.
Expected Availability
Coiltek plans to release these Goldhawk coils in July 2022. Given typical production timelines, we expect limited initial quantities with broader availability later in the year.
If you're considering which size to order first, think about your most common prospecting scenarios. The 10x5" offers the best all-around performance for varied conditions, while the 9" and 14x9" excel in their specialized roles.
