Why Every Detectorist Needs a Reliable Pinpointer Lanyard

If you swing a detector long enough, it happens to all of us: you dig a deep plug, pull out your pinpointer to locate that elusive silver dime, recover the target, and walk away—leaving your pinpointer sitting in the dirt. A heavy-duty pinpointer lanyard is a simple, inexpensive security leash that prevents exactly that. A quality pinpointer costs $100–$200; a lanyard costs a fraction of that and pays for itself the first time it stops one from being left in tall grass, dropped in the surf, or buried in a backfilled hole. Our team has lost pinpointers the hard way—it's why we stock Dan's Lanyards and run them on our own rigs.

Heavy-Duty Materials Built for Harsh Environments

We know what field gear goes through. Dan's Lanyards use field-tested, durable cordage that resists rotting, fraying, and UV damage, whether you're wading saltwater or hunting in pouring rain. The clips handle grit and sand without jamming, keeping your pinpointer securely tethered hunt after hunt. The flexible design gives you full range of motion to probe deep holes without pulling or tangling, then retracts out of the way when you stand back up.

Fits Garrett, Nokta, Quest, XP, and Other Major Pinpointers

Dan's Lanyards attach through the factory lanyard hole found on every major pinpointer, including the Garrett Pro-Pointer AT, Nokta pointers, Quest XPointer series, XP MI-6 and MI-4, and DetectorPro models. If your pinpointer has an attachment loop—and virtually all of them do—a Dan's Lanyard will secure it.

How to Properly Rig Your Pinpointer Setup

Proper rigging makes a real difference in your digging workflow. Most detectorists attach the anchor clip directly to the heavy-duty D-rings on their finds pouch or to their digging tool belt. The other end loops securely through the pinpointer's factory attachment point.

Keep the pinpointer on your non-dominant hip: you hold your metal detector in one hand and draw the pinpointer seamlessly with the other. It's a foolproof setup for absolute beginners and seasoned gold prospectors alike.
