The Teknetics TEK-POINT Pinpointer

The TEK-POINT uses bipolar, fully static pulse induction rather than VLF. The TEK-POINT manual rates it waterproof to a depth of 6 feet for 1 hour. It has three sensitivity levels (low, medium and high), and the target alert can be audible, vibratory or both. The LED flashlight is adjustable. Rapid Retune returns the pinpointer to stable operation. After 5 minutes without a button press it enters Lost Mode, flashing its LED and beeping every 15 seconds, and after 10 minutes it powers down. The TEK-POINT runs on 2 AA batteries: up to 25 hours on alkaline, 15 hours on NiMH rechargeables and 50 hours on lithium. It measures 240 x 45 x 35 mm, weighs 180 g and carries a 2-year warranty from First Texas Products.

We recommend the TEK-POINT for detectorists who dig in wet sand, creek beds and mineralized soil, and for anyone who wants a waterproof pinpointer that runs on standard AA batteries. Sensitivity is the setting to change most. Use low sensitivity to pin a shallow target among trash, and high sensitivity to find a deeper target in the side of the hole. Vibration-only alerts help in surf noise, wind or quiet neighborhoods. If the TEK-POINT drifts after you change from wet to dry ground, use Rapid Retune. The lost alarm and auto shutdown save the battery and help you find the pinpointer if you set it down in the grass.
