The MI-4 drops the wireless link for standalone operation at a lower price, keeping the same 20-foot waterproofing, rechargeable battery, and pitch/pulse audio, ideal if you run a non-XP detector or want a rugged backup. Do I need an XP detector to use the MI-6?
No. The MI-6 works as a standalone pinpointer on its own. But its signature wireless link (audio to the detector's headphones, auto-standby, remote control of sensitivity) only works with XP detectors like the Deus II, Deus, ORX, and ICON. If you don't run an XP machine, the standalone MI-4 gives you the same waterproof build for less.
Are XP pinpointers waterproof?
Yes. Both the MI-6 and MI-4 are fully submersible to 20 feet (6 m), so they're suited to beach, river, and wading recovery as well as rain and mud.
