Nokta Makro Wireless Headphones Pairing Guide

Pairing Wireless Headphones with the Impact & Racer Series

Getting your Nokta Makro 2.4GHz Wireless Headphones connected to your Impact, Racer 2, or Gold Racer detector isn't as straightforward as most wireless devices. These headphones use a specific pairing process that varies by detector model, and missing one step can leave you hunting in silence.

Compatibility Requirements

Before starting the pairing process, verify your detector meets these requirements:

Impact Series: Software version R2_V1.16_V1.14 or later. Download the latest firmware from www.noktadetectors.com if you're running an older version.

Racer 2: System box serial numbers above 9402

Gold Racer: System box serial numbers above 6916

Older units won't support the wireless connection, so check your serial number before attempting to pair.

Step-by-Step Pairing Process

Initial Setup

Start with both devices powered off completely. For Racer 2 and Gold Racer models without built-in wireless modules, insert the included dongle into the socket on the left side of the system box. The blue LED on your headphones should face the same side as your detector for optimal signal strength.

Activating Pairing Mode

Press and hold the white button on your headphones while switching them to the "on" position. Don't release the white button until you hear the battery status beeps:

  • 5 beeps = fully charged
  • 4-2 beeps = partial charge
  • 1 beep = low battery (charge immediately)

The blue LED will start blinking every 2 seconds, indicating the headphones are ready to pair.

Detector-Specific Pairing

For Impact detectors: Turn on your detector while pressing and holding the EXPERT button for 5-6 seconds. Don't release the button too early or the pairing will fail.

For Racer 2 and Gold Racer: Turn on your detector while pressing and holding the plus (+) button for 5-6 seconds.

When pairing succeeds, audio will transfer to your headphones and the blue LED will blink every second instead of every two seconds.

Troubleshooting Connection Issues

Channel Interference

If you hear audio distortion or interference from other detectors, change the wireless channel. The process differs by model:

Racer 2 and Gold Racer: Pull and hold the trigger switch forward while pressing the down button

Impact: Pull and hold the trigger switch back while pressing the down button

Each press cycles through channels 00-09-oF. The "oF" setting turns off wireless completely - useful when you're not using headphones to save battery.

Failed Pairing Recovery

If the connection drops during pairing, power off both devices completely and restart the process. Low battery is the most common cause of pairing failures, so charge your headphones if you only heard one beep during startup.

Wireless Headphone Alternatives

While the Nokta Makro wireless headphones work well with these specific detectors, other manufacturers offer wireless options too. Minelab wireless headphones pair with Equinox and Manticore series detectors using a different 2.4GHz system that's not compatible with Nokta models.

For wired alternatives, consider waterproof options if you hunt beaches or wet conditions frequently.

Volume and Power Management

Once paired, adjust volume using your detector's volume knob, not the headphones. The wireless connection will automatically reconnect when you power on both devices in the future - no need to repeat the pairing process unless you experience connection problems.

Keep the detector's wireless setting on "oF" when using wired headphones or detecting without audio to preserve battery life. The wireless module draws power even when headphones aren't connected.

Why Pairing Sometimes Fails

The most common issues are timing-related. Releasing the buttons too early, low headphone battery, or having the devices too far apart during pairing can all cause failures. Unlike phone Bluetooth, these headphones need to be within a few feet of the detector during the initial pairing process.

Once successfully paired, the connection range extends to about 30 feet in open areas, though thick vegetation or metal objects can reduce this distance.
