How much gold does a 1 oz vial hold?

The 1 oz rating is the vial's volume, about 30 ml, not the weight of gold it holds. Gold is so dense that a full vial of flakes would weigh far more than one troy ounce, so there is plenty of room for a season of flakes and fines. Should I keep my gold in water inside the vial?

Keeping gold in water is common practice and works well in a glass vial. Water lets flakes settle to the bottom and magnifies them through the glass for a better display, and fine gold is less likely to cling to the sides. What's the easiest way to get fine gold into the vial?

The easiest way is a snifter bottle. Squeeze it, hold the tip over the gold in your pan, release to pull the gold up with a little water, then squeeze it into the vial. It is far quicker than picking flakes with tweezers and loses less flour gold. Our TerraX 3 oz gold snifter bottle is sized for exactly this job.
