The Garrett Gold Guzzler is a gold snuffer bottle, the small squeeze bottle prospectors use to lift fine gold out of a pan without touching it. Flour gold and small flakes sit in the last pinch of black sand at the end of a pan, where fingers and tweezers push them around and knock them back into the concentrate. The Gold Guzzler solves that: squeeze the bottle, hold the tip of the tube over the gold under water, and let go. The bottle draws the water and the gold up the tube, and the gold drops into the bottle where it stays until you decide to take it out. It is a genuine Garrett part, the same bottle Garrett packs into its Gravity Trap panning kits, sold here on its own.
Who the Garrett Gold Guzzler Is For
Every prospector who works a pan needs a snuffer bottle (some call it a sniffer bottle or suction bottle), and this one is the simplest version of the tool: a translucent plastic squeeze bottle with a screw cap and a narrow rigid tube. If you are just starting out, it is the recovery tool to buy first, before tweezers, because it handles the fine gold that makes up most of what a pan produces. If you already have a Gold Guzzler in a Garrett Gold Panning Kit, this is the same bottle sold on its own, useful as a spare or a second bottle for a partner. Prospectors who snipe bedrock cracks underwater with a mask usually want a larger bottle with a longer tube, since this one is built for pan cleanup, not for reaching into crevices.
How to Use a Snuffer Bottle Like the Gold Guzzler
Pan your material down until only a thin line of black sand and gold remains, then tilt the pan so a little water pools over that line. Squeeze the Gold Guzzler to push the air out, put the tip of the tube right against the flake, and release your grip slowly. The bottle refills with water and pulls the gold in with it. Work one flake or one small cluster at a time; a fast release pulls in black sand along with the gold, which is harmless but means more cleanup later. Keep the tube tip under the water while you release, because sucking air breaks the vacuum and the flake stays put. When the bottle has taken on more water than you want, tip it tube-down, squeeze gently to push clear water back out, and carry on. Our gold panning guide covers the full pan-down sequence that gets you to this last step.
Getting the Gold Back Out
The screw cap comes off, so emptying the bottle is easy. Let the gold settle to the bottom, pour off most of the water, then rinse the last of it with a little clean water into a vial such as the Garrett Gold Vial. Between trips the capped bottle is a safe place to keep the day's take, and because the plastic is translucent you can hold it up to the light and see how much is in there. Do not dry gold inside the bottle; the tube is narrow and dry flakes cling to the walls.
