The Minelab Pro-Find 40 is a waterproof VLF pinpointer with five sensitivity levels, ferrous tone ID, and Minelab's DIF technology, built for detectorists who want to find the target in the hole fast without the probe falsing their detector. Rated to 3 m (10 ft), it goes in the water with a waterproof detector at the beach or in a creek, and its bright red grip and lost alarm mean it comes home with you. Minelab's tuned circuitry gives it up to 10% more depth than the Pro-Find 35, making it Minelab's deepest pinpointer.

    What's Included with the Minelab Pro-Find 40

    • Pro-Find 40 pinpointer
    • Belt holster
    • Lanyard
    • 9 V PP3 battery
    • Multi-language instructions

Faster Target Recovery in Any Ground

    Parks, Lawns and Tot Lots

Once the detector has isolated a coin, the Pro-Find 40 locates it in the plug or the hole so you dig a smaller, cleaner hole and refill it faster. Five sensitivity levels let you turn the probe down in trashy ground so you get one clean response from the coin instead of a smear from nearby iron, and the on-demand Rapid Re-tune resets the probe against the soil when mineralization or a large target makes it chatter.

    Beach, Surf and Creek Beds

Waterproof to 3 m (10 ft), the Pro-Find 40 works in wet sand, in the wash, and in shallow water where a non-waterproof probe would die on the first dunk. Pair it with any of our waterproof metal detectors and you can locate a ring in a scoop of wet sand or sift a gravel bar without pulling the probe out of the water. The lost alarm sounds if you set it down and walk off, and the red grip is easy to spot in dark sand or leaf litter.

    Relic Sites with Heavy Iron

Ferrous tone ID gives you two audio responses at the tip: one for iron, one for non-ferrous targets. In a hole full of square nails and a musket ball, you can sweep the probe across the dirt and hear which piece is worth pulling out first. It is an iron/not-iron call rather than a target ID number, so the detector still makes the dig decision, but it saves a lot of time sorting a busy hole.

DIF Technology: No Interference With Your Detector

Most pinpointers cause a detector's coil to false when the probe passes near it on your belt. Minelab's Detector Interference Free (DIF) technology cuts that interference when the Pro-Find 40 is switched off, so you can wear it on your hip while you swing without chasing ghost signals. It works with any brand of detector, and it is the natural match for Minelab machines such as the Equinox, Manticore, Vanquish and X-Terra families in our Minelab collection.

Why Detectorists Choose the Pro-Find 40

    • Up to 10% more depth than the Pro-Find 35, from finely tuned VLF circuitry: Minelab's deepest and most accurate pinpointer.
    • Five adjustable sensitivity levels to balance depth against noise in mineralized or iron-heavy ground.
    • Ferrous tone ID separates iron from non-ferrous targets at the tip, before you pull anything out of the hole.
    • Waterproof to 3 m (10 ft), with audio, vibration, or both, and a built-in LED flashlight for dim holes and low light.
    • Lost alarm and high-visibility red handgrip so a pinpointer set down in the grass is not left behind.
    • Runs about 20 hours on one standard 9 V battery: no proprietary charger, no cable to lose.

Does the Minelab Pro-Find 40 interfere with my metal detector?

No, the Minelab Pro-Find 40 does not interfere with your metal detector while it is switched off on your belt. Its DIF (Detector Interference Free) technology keeps the probe from falsing the search coil as it passes, which is the usual reason a pinpointer gets left in the truck. Switch it on only when the hole is open and the detector is set aside. It works with any brand of detector; every model we carry is in our pinpointers collection.

What battery does the Minelab Pro-Find 40 use and how long does it last?

The Minelab Pro-Find 40 uses a single 9 V PP3 battery and runs for about 20 hours on it. It is not rechargeable, so there is no cable to lose and any spare 9 V from a hardware store gets you hunting again; keep one in the holster pocket. If you would rather charge than change batteries, compare the rechargeable options in our Minelab pinpointers collection.

Can the Minelab Pro-Find 40 tell iron from a coin?

Yes, the Minelab Pro-Find 40 can tell iron from a coin before you pull it out of the hole. Its ferrous tone ID gives ferrous targets one tone and non-ferrous targets another, so a rusty nail and a wheat cent sound different at the tip. It is a two-way call, iron or not iron, rather than a target ID number, so the detector still makes the dig decision. Five sensitivity levels let you turn it down in iron-heavy ground. Our best pinpointers guide compares this feature across brands.
