The Minelab PRO-GOLD classifier sits on top of a standard 5 gallon (20 L) bucket and screens your dirt before it reaches the pan. Its 1/2 in hex mesh holds back rocks, roots and coarse gravel while the finer material, where most gold is, drops into the bucket.

How to Use It

Set the classifier on your bucket, dump in a shovel of material and shake or wash it through. Check the oversize on top for nuggets before you toss it, then pan or further classify the fines in the bucket. Many prospectors stack a finer screen next to cut material down before panning.

What should I classify down to after the 1/2 in screen?

The 1/2 in screen strips out rocks. Most prospectors then run the fines through a finer screen before panning, so less gravel goes into the pan and fine gold settles faster. A TerraX sifting classifier sized for your pan handles that step.

Should I check the rocks left on top for gold?
