The Gold-N-Sand X-Stream Hybrid Pro is a non-motorized hand dredge for gold, built for prospectors working creek beds, bedrock crevices and the gravel behind boulders where a pan or sluice cannot reach. This package adds the Gold-N-Sand Ergo Handle to the standard pump, which is the version we point people to when they plan on pumping for more than a few minutes at a stretch. Because there is no motor, it is legal in most areas where powered dredging is restricted, and the whole kit packs into a backpack.

Is the Ergo Handle package the right one?

The Ergo Handle slides onto the 2-inch barrel of the pump and tightens with a twist, giving you a second grip point so the stroke comes from your arm and shoulder instead of a pinch grip on the tube. If you are buying your first hand dredge and expect long sessions, this package saves you buying the Ergo Handle separately later. If you only snipe crevices for a few pulls at a time, the base X-Stream Hybrid Pro does the same job for less. If you want to run material continuously in the stream without emptying a bucket, look at the X-Stream Hybrid Pro with Boomer Box, which turns the pump into a compact in-stream sluice.

How the X-Stream Hybrid Pro works in the field

The pump is fully submersible, so you can work it entirely under water on a bedrock shelf or from the surface with the hose run down into a crack. Each pull draws gravel through the nozzle and into the pump body; each push sends it up the 6-foot hose into the 2-gallon bucket, which has a clear "Quick View" side so you can see when it is time to pan out. The patented valve is the reason to choose this pump over a basic sucker gun: it keeps material flowing forward instead of clogging or spitting back, and the valve gasket can be swapped in the field without tools. The leather cups are cut slightly under the tube diameter so they swell with water and seal themselves; a replacement cup kit is cheap insurance for a long trip.

Three nozzles ship with the kit and you will use all of them. The Sniper Nozzle with Rock Block gets into cracks and crevices and stops pebbles jamming the tip. The Bulk Sand Nozzle moves sand and material up to half an inch quickly when you are clearing overburden. The Classifier Nozzle screens out sticks and leaves so only number 8 mesh and finer reaches the bucket, which is the one to fit when you are chasing fine gold. An 8-inch extension adds reach for deeper cracks. The kit ships unassembled; assembly is a few minutes with the included instructions. Do I need the Ergo Handle for the Gold-N-Sand X-Stream Hybrid Pro?

You do not need the Ergo Handle to run the Gold-N-Sand X-Stream Hybrid Pro; the pump works on its own with the T-grip on the plunger. The handle slides onto the 2-inch barrel and tightens with a twist, giving you a second grip so long pumping sessions come from your arm rather than a pinched hand. Most people who dredge for more than a few minutes at a time end up adding it, which is why we sell it fitted in this package. The Gold-N-Sand Ergo Handle is also sold on its own.

Is the Gold-N-Sand X-Stream Hybrid Pro legal where motorized dredging is banned?

The Gold-N-Sand X-Stream Hybrid Pro is a non-motorized hand dredge, so it is generally treated as hand equipment rather than a suction dredge, and it is the tool most prospectors reach for in areas where motorized dredging is prohibited or requires a permit. Rules vary by state, forest and claim, so check the regulations for the specific waterway before you go. Our gold prospecting equipment collection covers hand tools and non-motorized options for regulated areas.

Which nozzle should I use on the Gold-N-Sand X-Stream Hybrid Pro?

Start with the Sniper Nozzle with Rock Block for cracks and crevices; the Rock Block keeps pebbles from jamming the tip. Switch to the Bulk Sand Nozzle when you are clearing overburden, since it moves sand and material up to half an inch quickly. Fit the Classifier Nozzle when you are working fine gold, because it screens out sticks and leaves and passes only number 8 mesh and smaller. All three ship in the box, and the 8-inch extension fits any of them. See the rest of the Gold-N-Sand range for spare nozzles.
