Do the leather cups on the Gold-N-Sand X-Stream Hybrid Pro need soaking before use?

Yes, the leather cups on the Gold-N-Sand X-Stream Hybrid Pro should be soaked in cool water for 10 to 15 minutes before the first outing. Leather seals by absorbing water and swelling against the tube wall, so a dry cup feels weak on the first strokes and then firms up. Once wet, water lubricates the cup and it outlasts rubber in sand, but do not let a wet cup freeze. The spare cups in this bundle fit every Gold-N-Sand hand dredge; see the rest of the Gold-N-Sand range.

Why does the Gold-N-Sand X-Stream Hybrid Pro bundle include spare valve diaphragms?

The Gold-N-Sand X-Stream Hybrid Pro bundle includes spare valve diaphragms because the diaphragm is the one part you can lose in the creek. The patented valve is what stops the dredge clogging and spitting material back out, and its gasket is designed to be swapped in the field without tools. Pull it off in moving water and it can float away, so the spare set in this bundle means a lost or torn diaphragm ends a repair, not the trip. Spare parts are listed with our other gold prospecting equipment.

    Answered by Dan P. · September 2026

What size material can the Gold-N-Sand X-Stream Hybrid Pro pick up?

The Gold-N-Sand X-Stream Hybrid Pro picks up material up to about 1/2 inch with the Bulk Sand nozzle, which is the one to fit for moving gravel fast. The Classifier nozzle screens out sticks, leaves and anything larger than #8 mesh so only fine sand reaches the bucket, and the Sniper nozzle with Rock Block is for pulling from cracks and crevices where a wide mouth would jam. Everything travels through the 6 foot hose into the 2 gallon Quick View bucket.
