The Nokta waterproof external battery and charger (part 17000456) is a clip-on backup power pack for the Nokta Legend, the Score, Double Score and Triple Score, the Simplex Ultra and Simplex Lite, and the FindX and FindX Pro. The internal battery on these detectors is sealed and can only be replaced by Nokta service, so this external 3.7V 5500mAh pack is how you add runtime in the field: mount it in its housing on the detector, plug it into the headphone and charger socket, and keep hunting. It is not for the Legend 2, which uses its own Nokta Legend 2 external battery.
Who actually needs one
Nokta rates the Legend's internal battery at 8 to 20 hours depending on frequency, backlight, speaker versus headphones and flashlight use. If you hunt three or four hours at a time and charge between trips, you will rarely drain it. This pack earns its place on multi-day trips without charging, on long beach or water hunts where you cannot stop, and for hunters who run wired headphones, backlight and the lower frequencies that draw more current. Using it in the field
Charge the pack with the included charger from any USB power source before the hunt. While it is connected you cannot plug in wired headphones, so plan on Bluetooth headphones or the speaker for the backup stretch. The pack is waterproof in its housing; if you take the battery out of the housing, do not use the detector in rain or underwater, and remove the empty housing from the detector before submerging.
