Why the Second Coil and the Backpack

The LD28 11 in coil covers most hunting: parks, fields, beaches. The LD21 8 x 5.5 in elliptical is the coil for cellar holes, fence lines and trashy picnic areas, where the 11 in coil masks a coin sitting next to a nail. Swapping coils takes a minute. The DetectoBag carries the Legend 2 collapsed to 25 in with the 11 in coil still mounted, the 8 x 5.5 in coil, headphones, pinpointer and digger in separate compartments, with a rain cover for the walk back. We sell it separately as the Nokta DetectoBag.

Field Use

Parks and Sports Fields

Park mode in Multi with the LD28, three or five tones, sensitivity around 24. Silver and clad read in the 80s and 90s; pull tabs scatter through the 40s. Switch to the LD21 for the trashy strip along paths and playground edges.

Old Homesites and Relic Fields

The new Relic mode is built for iron-heavy ground: run it with the LD21, a fast recovery speed and FerroCheck on, and let the 99-point ID separate buttons and buckles from nails. Drop to 4 or 10 kHz single frequency for deep large copper and lead.

Beach, Wet Sand and Shallow Water

Beach mode handles wet salt sand in Multi where single-frequency machines fall apart, and the IP68 rating covers wading and snorkeling to 16 ft. The included Bluetooth headphones are not waterproof, so use the speaker or a bone-conduction headset in the water, and pair the kit with a sand scoop.

Gold Prospecting

Legend 2 vs. the Original Legend

The Legend 2 expands target IDs from 60 to 99, adds the Relic mode and target ID in Pinpoint, moves to a harmonic audio engine, adds 19 noise cancel channels, wireless firmware updates, bone-conduction headphone support and a backlit keypad, and drops about 0.4 lbs.
