The Nokta Simplex Ultra WHP gives a single-frequency VLF user submersible 5 m (16 ft) reach, six search modes including 99 Tone, and aptX Low Latency wireless headphones in one buy. We sell this version of the Simplex line with the headphones already paired in the box, so a buyer steps from an entry detector straight to a real waterproof machine without a separate audio purchase. Nokta built it on a fully carbon fiber shaft at 2.6 lbs, and the 15 kHz VLF circuit was retuned for the New Generation series with sharper recovery and stronger ID lock in mineralized ground.

What You Gain Coming from a Single-Frequency Entry Detector

    • Submersion to 5 m (16 ft). The control box, coil, and shaft go fully underwater at the lake, river, or surf line. A rain cover or splash rating no longer limits where we hunt.
    • Six search modes including 4 Tone and 99 Tone. Reading targets by tone width gives us audio depth our previous two-tone or three-tone entry detectors never delivered.
    • True Beach mode for wet salt sand. The Simplex Ultra ground balances against saltwater conductivity, so we keep coil-to-ground and pull jewelry from the wet zone without constant falsing.
    • Carbon fiber shaft and 2.6 lb (1.2 kg) total weight. Long swings get noticeably easier on the shoulder, and the shaft collapses to 25 inches for travel.
    • Frequency Shift, manual ground balance, and adjustable recovery speed. We can tune around EMI, hot ground, and trashy sites instead of switching off and walking away.
    • aptX Low Latency wireless headphones included. Audio stays in sync with the coil pass, and there is no cord to snag on dig tools or brush.

Buyers cross-shopping the Simplex line can compare specs across all three SKUs on the Nokta Simplex Series collection page.

Where the Simplex Ultra WHP Earns Its Money

    Saltwater Beach and Surf Hunting

Wet salt sand and surf push entry detectors past their limit. Conductive saltwater reads as a target on basic single-frequency machines, and a rain-rated control box does not survive a roller. The Simplex Ultra runs Beach mode with a stable ground reference for salt, takes the full IP68 plunge to 5 m (16 ft), and the SX28 11" DD coil cuts through wet mineralization without losing target ID on coin-sized objects.

    • Mode: Beach
    • Sensitivity: 18 to 22 (drop 2 levels if EMI ticks pick up)
    • Iron Filter (Iron Volume): 2 to 3
    • Ground Balance: Auto, then re-pump at the wet line
    • Frequency Shift: 1 or 2 if other detectors are working nearby

    Park Coin and Jewelry Hunting

Mowed parks hide good targets under aluminum trash and modern coins. A basic two-tone detector forces a guess on every dig. The Simplex Ultra in 99 Tone mode reads conductivity across the full 01-99 ID scale, so a high-conductive silver dime sounds different from a zinc penny or a gold ring, and we dig the right holes.

    • Mode: 99 Tone (or 4 Tone for simpler audio)
    • Sensitivity: 22 to 25
    • Notch: reject 1 to 12 to drop most foil and small can slaw
    • Ground Balance: Auto, then verify with a clean pump
    • Recovery Speed: medium to fast in trashy zones

For a side-by-side look at how the Simplex Ultra stacks up against another popular sub-$500 multi-mode VLF, our Vanquish 540 vs Simplex Ultra comparison walks through the differences in detail.

    Field and Relic Hunting

Old farm fields, colonial sites, and pasture iron require a detector that can hear non-ferrous targets next to nails. The Simplex Ultra runs Field mode with adjustable Iron Filter and a tighter recovery setting, and the 15 kHz frequency has the bite to pop small lead and brass next to deeper iron.

    • Mode: Field
    • Sensitivity: 24 to 28 in clean ground, drop in mineralization
    • Iron Filter: 2 for relic, 3 to 4 in heavy iron
    • Ground Balance: Manual after a pump test for hot ground
    • Recovery Speed: fast in iron, medium in open ground

The 15 kHz VLF Platform and Why It Works at This Price

Single-frequency VLF gets a lot done when the circuit is tuned well. The Simplex Ultra runs at 15 kHz, a middle-ground frequency that handles small jewelry, mid-conductive coins, and silver without forcing us to pick between low and high frequency machines. Iron Off, Ground Suppressor, and Coin and Relic ID Scale settings give us tighter discrimination than entry detectors offer, and Frequency Shift gives a clean way to step away from EMI without losing depth. Tone Break, Tone Frequency, and Tone Volume are user-adjustable, so the audio can be shaped to a hunting style instead of accepted as default. Firmware updates over USB keep the platform current as Nokta releases improvements.

    Build, Display, and Audio

The fully carbon fiber shaft adjusts from 25 to 52 inches, packs into a small bag, and balances at the cuff with the SX28 coil mounted. Total weight is 1.2 kg (2.6 lbs). The graphic LCD carries backlit segments, the keypad is backlit for night use, and an LED flashlight under the box handles dawn and dusk hunts. Controls are a single-menu layout with Mode, Sensitivity, Iron Filter, Notch, and Tone access from the top buttons.

The WHP variant ships with Nokta aptX Low Latency wireless headphones already paired, so audio stays in sync with the coil pass and there is no cord to manage. Vibration alerts run alongside audio and help during deep submersion when the speaker is muted. A Nokta pinpointer pairs naturally with this rig for plug recovery and tighter pinpointing on small targets.

    Coil Options

The included SX28 11" DD waterproof coil is the all-purpose choice. It runs deep in moderate ground, separates well in moderate trash, and handles surf without issue. Two optional coils are available from Nokta for the Simplex platform.

The SX24 (9.5" x 6" DD) is the small-coil pick for trashy parks, dense iron at relic sites, and small jewelry hunts. We reach for it when the SX28 is bouncing too much in nail-heavy ground. The SX35 (13.5" x 12.5" DD) is the large coil. It adds reach in clean ground for deeper coin and relic targets in open fields and pastures, and we run it where the SX28's depth is the limit, not the ground.
