Inside the Nokta Simplex Lite

The Nokta Simplex Lite is the entry point of the new-generation Simplex line. It runs a single 15 kHz operating frequency, ships with the SX24 9.5 x 6-inch DD waterproof coil, and weighs 1.2 kg (2.6 lb) on an aluminum upper / plastic lower shaft. A built-in 2300 mAh lithium-polymer rechargeable battery runs through a full day on a single charge over USB. Four search modes (Field, Park, Beach, All Metal) plus a Pinpoint function, 30 sensitivity levels, target ID 01 to 99 with notch discrimination, vibration feedback, a graphic LCD with backlight, five volume levels, and IP68 submersibility to 5 meters (16 feet) round out the feature set. The Simplex Lite uses Nokta's 8-pin headphone connector with a 1/4 inch (6.3 mm) wired adapter in the box; Bluetooth wireless audio is reserved for the Simplex BT and Simplex Ultra higher in the line.

Who the Nokta Simplex Lite Is For

We point shoppers at the Simplex Lite when the goal is a serious entry-level waterproof detector at the lowest price point in the new-generation Simplex line. The Lite is the right pick for new detectorists who want a real machine instead of a starter toy, for park and tot-lot hunters working low-to-moderate iron sites, for backup or loaner-rig duty in a club bag, and for water hunters working freshwater streams, lakes, and the surf line where IP68 submersibility to 5 meters covers full submersion. The Lite is not the right choice for buyers who want Bluetooth wireless audio out of the box, where the Simplex BT is the relevant model, or for advanced operators who want 4 Tone and 99 Tone modes, the Coin & Relic ID Scale, Target ID Depth, and variable tone break, frequency, and volume controls, where the Simplex Ultra steps in.

Stock Coil and Compatible Upgrades

The Simplex Lite ships with the SX24, a 9.5 x 6-inch waterproof DD coil. The smaller footprint suits the Lite's intended use cases: tighter target separation in iron-heavy parks, easier swing in scrub and around playground equipment, and lower swing weight on long sessions. We swap to the SX28 (11-inch DD) when we want more depth and ground coverage on open fields and dry beaches, and we mount the SX35 (13.5 x 12.5-inch DD) when we are chasing every extra inch on deep silver in low-trash open ground. All three are factory Nokta DD coils, all three are waterproof, and all three carry across the new-generation Simplex Lite, BT, and Ultra without firmware changes. Coils built for the previous-generation Nokta Makro Simplex+ ran at 12 kHz on a different coil family and are not cross-compatible with the new-gen 15 kHz Lite. Verify the listing names the 15 kHz Simplex Lite/BT/Ultra platform before ordering an aftermarket or used coil.

Headphones and Audio for the Simplex Lite

The Simplex Lite uses Nokta's 8-pin headphone connector. A 1/4 inch (6.3 mm) wired adapter is included in the box, so any standard 1/4 inch wired headphone plugs in directly, and 1/8 inch (3.5 mm) headsets need an additional 1/4-to-1/8 step-down adapter. The Lite is wired only; it does not have built-in Bluetooth. For wireless audio on the Simplex platform, the Simplex BT and Simplex Ultra are the relevant models. Five volume levels and vibration feedback round out the audio output. Vibration alone is a useful mode for water hunting where the headphone seal can break, and for noisy beach environments where the audio cue gets lost in surf.

Waterproof Performance and Beach Hunting

The Simplex Lite is rated IP68 fully submersible to 5 meters (16 feet). The control pod, coil, and headphone connector are all sealed. We use the Lite confidently in freshwater streams, lake edges, and the surf line, and on dry and wet beach sand. Wet salt sand and high-mineralization black sand will push any single-frequency 15 kHz VLF, including the Lite, harder than they push a true multi-frequency or pulse induction machine. We drop sensitivity and tighten discrimination to keep the threshold quiet in those conditions, or we run the Beach search mode that is tuned for the salt response. For sustained surf and salt-beach work, a true multi-frequency saltwater machine is a better tool. For freshwater hunting and mixed beach use on a budget, the Simplex Lite holds its own.

Coil Covers, Shafts and Wear Parts

The Simplex Lite ships with the SX24 coil cover already installed. We replace the cover before it wears through to the coil winding, and we keep a spare in the field bag. Coil cables flex with every swing and the connector at the control pod is the stress point; a spare coil cable is the single most useful wear part to keep on hand. O-rings seal the battery compartment and accessory ports on the IP68-rated Simplex Lite; saltwater and UV degrade them, so we replace annually if we hunt beaches or wade freshwater. Knob caps and the headphone adapter are the smaller items that wear with use. The Simplex Lite shaft is aluminum upper with a plastic lower; the lower section is replaceable if it cracks. Aftermarket carry bags built around the new-generation Simplex form factor hold the detector, pinpointer, headphones, and a coil swap together; carry bags are not included with the Lite package.

Nokta Simplex Model Guide: Ultra, BT & Lite – Which Accessories Fit?

The new-generation Simplex line is three models: the Simplex Lite, Simplex BT, and Simplex Ultra. All three run at 15 kHz, share the SX-series coil family, ship with IP68 submersibility to 5 meters (16 feet), and use the same 1/8 inch (3.5 mm) wired headphone jack. Bluetooth wireless audio lives on the BT and Ultra; the Lite is wired only. Search-mode counts climb across the line: Lite has 4 modes (Field, Park, Beach, All Metal), BT has 5 (Field, Park 1, Park 2, Beach, All Metal), and Ultra has 6 (Field, Park, 4 Tone, 99 Tone, Beach, All Metal). The Ultra adds the Coin & Relic ID Scale, Target ID Depth, and the variable tone break, frequency, and volume controls that experienced detectorists use to fine-tune audio.

The previous-generation Nokta Makro Simplex+ runs at a different operating frequency (12 kHz) on a separate coil family. New-gen SX-series coils will not work on a Simplex+, and Simplex+ coils will not work on the Lite, BT, or Ultra. When ordering coils for an older Simplex+, verify the listing names that model specifically.
