The Nokta Legend 2 picks up where the original Legend left off, and then pushes well past it. Lighter at 2.6 lbs, quicker to separate targets in iron, and built around a new LD coil series with a 99-segment target ID that now displays in Pinpoint mode, this is the machine Nokta engineered for detectorists who want a genuine performance gain rather than a cosmetic refresh. We have run the Nokta Legend 2 across iron-heavy parks, worked-out relic fields, and saltwater beaches, and it holds its own in every one of them.
Why Experienced Detectorists Choose the Nokta Legend 2
- Three simultaneous multi-frequency modes plus five selectable single frequencies give you a wider toolkit than the original Legend. Covering low-conductivity gold and high-conductivity silver in a single session, without swapping machines, is now straightforward.
- Target ID now shows in Pinpoint mode, a feature the original Legend lacked. You walk the coil over a questionable signal in Pinpoint and read the ID without toggling back to detection mode. On busy sites with tight target clusters, this saves real time and spares you unnecessary digs.
- The new LD coil series is purpose-built for the Legend 2 platform. The LD28 (11" DD) covers ground efficiently in open fields, and the compact LD21 (8"x5.5" DD) threads through bottle-cap patches that would cost you targets with a larger coil. Both are included in this bundle.
- A 6,700 mAh lithium-ion battery extends runtime by up to 33% over the original Legend's 5,050 mAh pack. That difference is felt on long farm permission days, multi-hour beach sessions, or any hunt where you have been timing your exit around battery life.
- The original Legend collection remains available as a capable step-down option if budget is the priority. We have a full side-by-side breakdown in our Nokta Legend vs. Legend 2 comparison, or you can browse the original Nokta Legend lineup directly.

Hunting with the Nokta Legend 2
Park and Coin Hunting
Park mode runs the SMF engine against discrimination masks tuned for high-trash urban environments. On sites with dense iron and pull-tab interference, running Recovery Speed at 5 or 6 keeps fast signals distinct and avoids blending adjacent targets. Backing it down to 3 on cleaner lawns recovers depth on buried coins the faster settings skip over. The 99-segment ID scale separates zinc cents from solid copper in the 60s to 80s range consistently enough that you can program tone breaks with confidence and dig with intention rather than habit.
- Search Mode: Park
- Sensitivity: 18-22 (lower on highly mineralized ground)
- Recovery Speed: 5-6 (dense trash) / 3-4 (open lawns)
- Ground Balance: Auto, verified manually on red clay or black sand
- Coil: LD21 for dense trash; LD28 for open park coverage
FerroCheck runs continuously alongside the target ID and flags probable iron before you commit to the dig. On a site loaded with cut nails and bottle caps, that secondary readout cuts recovery time meaningfully.
Relic Hunting
The Nokta Legend 2 replaces the original Legend's Beast mode with a dedicated Relic mode, optimized for heavily mineralized historical sites. The signal processing handles soil-loaded responses and deep iron masking better than Park or Field, and the adjustable threshold lets you tune the audio floor to suit the site. We run a lower sensitivity on the most loaded sites to keep ground balance stable on deep, faint signals, then dial it back up as the ground opens.
- Search Mode: Relic
- Sensitivity: 14-18 (highly mineralized) / up to 24 (moderate ground)
- Recovery Speed: 4
- Ground Balance: Manual, re-verified every 15-20 minutes on heavy ground
- Coil: LD28 for depth on open fields; LD21 for gridding tight excavation areas
The Relic mode threshold is adjustable, which lets you set a faint background hum and hear subtle deep target responses that would otherwise blend into silence.
Beach and Shallow Water
The IP68 rating holds to 5 meters (16 ft), covering productive surf zone and lagoon hunting at practical depths. Beach mode manages saltwater ground interference through the SMF engine without requiring constant manual adjustments. Vibration mode lets you hunt submerged without relying on headphone audio. We pair the Legend 2 with a quality waterproof pinpointer on beach sessions; the combination cuts recovery time significantly in wet sand where targets shift during digging.
- Search Mode: Beach
- Sensitivity: 16-20
- Recovery Speed: 5
- Ground Balance: Tracking (active saltwater ground)
- Coil: LD28 for dry sand depth; LD21 for surf edge and water hunting
The Bluetooth aptX headphones stay in range on wet sand and maintain low enough latency for reliable target ID correlation.
Gold and Mineralized Ground
Gold mode on the Nokta Legend 2 lowers the discrimination floor and increases sensitivity to small, low-conductivity targets. Running a single high frequency (20 kHz or 40 kHz) rather than SMF can improve response to sub-gram nuggets on clean ground, and the adjustable threshold gives you an audible baseline to work against. Manual ground balance is essential here; tracking can chase mineralization variations and mask the signals you are hunting.
- Search Mode: Gold
- Frequency: 20 kHz or 40 kHz (single frequency for small gold)
- Sensitivity: 20-26 (clean ground)
- Recovery Speed: 6
- Ground Balance: Manual
- Coil: LD21 for improved sensitivity to small targets
The Technology Inside
Three Multi-Frequency Modes, Not a Single Setting
The Nokta Legend 2 runs three distinct simultaneous multi-frequency combinations (M1, M2, M3) plus three additional multi-frequency variants across the 4 to 40 kHz range. The practical result is better signal consistency across varying ground compositions. A silver coin and a small gold ring do not respond the same way at any given depth, and SMF processing evaluates both responses simultaneously rather than cycling between them. This is the same core technology that made the original Legend competitive against detectors costing considerably more, refined and expanded in the Legend 2. Frequency Shift now offers 19 user-selectable channels, up from 13 on the original Legend, which helps on heavily EMI-affected sites.
FerroCheck and the 99-Segment ID Scale
The FerroCheck readout provides a secondary ferrous probability indicator that runs alongside the primary target ID. On sites with surface iron contamination, a mid-range ID combined with a low FerroCheck reading is a reliable indicator worth investigating. The 99-segment scale provides enough resolution to build reliable tone break programs per hunt type, and with target ID now visible in Pinpoint mode, you can confirm a signal without committing to the full recovery dig.
Build, Ergonomics, and Controls
Shaft and Weight
The Nokta Legend 2 weighs 1.2 kg (2.6 lbs) with the search coil attached, down from 1.3 kg on the original Legend. The shaft adjusts between 63 cm and 145 cm (25" to 57"), collapses for transport, and the coil locks flat against the lower shaft. The redesigned armrest sits at a lower profile than the original, moving the balance point closer to the grip. On hunts lasting three or more hours, the weight reduction and updated balance are noticeable.
Membrane Keypad and Display
The Legend 2 replaces the original's rubber key panel with a sealed membrane keypad that is now fully backlit. The tactile response is similar to the original, but the sealed construction improves water resistance around the keypad area. The display is larger than on the original Legend, making IDs and settings easier to read in direct sunlight. Combined backlit LCD and keypad illumination make night hunting or early-morning low-light sessions straightforward without a headlamp aimed at the display.
Battery and Updates
The 6,700 mAh lithium-ion cell charges via USB. A dedicated battery charge LED indicates charging status without requiring you to power on the display. Firmware updates can be applied over Bluetooth from a phone, removing the need for a laptop connection at the firmware update step.
Audio and Vibration
The Nokta Legend 2 offers seven tone configurations: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 99, and Proportional. Audio frequency is adjustable from 100 Hz to 1,200 Hz, and both tone break points and tone volume are user-configurable per search mode and user profile. The included Bluetooth aptX headphones maintain low latency that keeps audio synchronized with coil movement, which matters for accurate target ID correlation at walking speed. Vibration activates independently and operates at full IP68 depth, making it the primary feedback method for shallow-water hunting where audio is impractical and removing headphone cable management from underwater work entirely.
Coil Options: LD28 and LD21
LD28 11" DD (Included)
The standard coil for open-ground coverage. The 28 cm DD configuration provides depth on mid-conductivity targets in average soil and handles ground mineralization consistently across the SMF modes. Run the LD28 on permission fields, larger parks, and dry beach sections where coverage area is the priority over target separation in tight spaces.
LD21 8" x 5.5" DD (Included)
The compact LD21 fits into spaces the LD28 cannot reach cleanly. On high-trash park sections or gridded relic sites where target clustering is tight, the smaller coil recovers signal separation between adjacent targets that a larger coil blends together. It also responds better to shallow, small targets in the zero to four inch range. This coil is included in this bundle at no additional cost, which gives you two fully distinct hunting configurations from the moment the machine arrives.
Additional Nokta LD-series coils, including the LD22 (oval) and LD38 (large elliptical), are sold separately and fully compatible with the Nokta Legend 2 platform.
