What is the difference between the Fisher Gold Bug and the Fisher Gold Bug Pro?

The difference between the Fisher Gold Bug and the Fisher Gold Bug Pro is how much ground information the detector gives you. Both run at 19 kHz with the same 5 inch DD coil and Ground Grab computerized ground balancing. The Gold Bug Pro adds a Ground Phase readout, an Fe3O4 mineralization graphic, and V-Break variable breakpoint tone discrimination. The base Gold Bug uses fixed two-tone discrimination with no ground condition readouts. Compare them in our Fisher Gold Bug Pro detectors.

Is the Fisher Gold Bug waterproof?

The Fisher Gold Bug is not waterproof. The 5 inch DD search coil is waterproof and can be submerged, but the control housing is not, so treat this as a land and shallow-water machine. You can work creek banks, wet washes, and damp ground as long as the control box stays dry. For full submersion, see our underwater and waterproof metal detectors.

Can you put a bigger coil on the Fisher Gold Bug?

You can put a bigger coil on the Fisher Gold Bug. It uses the same screw-in connector as the Fisher Gold Bug Pro, Gold Bug DP, and F19, so Fisher's 10 inch DD elliptical and 11 inch DD coils both fit. The stock 5 inch DD gives the best sensitivity to small gold and the best separation in trashy ground. A larger coil trades some of that for ground coverage and depth on bigger targets.
