Metal Detectors with Waterproof Coils

On these detectors the search coil and lower shaft are sealed and can be submerged, but the control box is not. That covers most real hunting: wet grass, rain, creek banks, wet sand, and wading up to about the coil's depth rating. What it does not cover is dropping the machine in the surf or hunting fully underwater. This is where the large majority of land detectors sit, including the Garrett ACE series, most Fisher and Teknetics machines, and entry to mid-level VLF detectors. If you plan to hunt in water rather than near it, look at fully waterproof models instead.
