These are Minelab's wired waterproof headphones, built for detectorists who actually put the coil under water. They terminate in the sealed 3.5mm Equinox connector, so they plug straight into a Manticore, Equinox, X-TERRA or VANQUISH 60 and stay sealed while you wade. There is no Bluetooth here and no battery to die halfway through a tide window: the signal travels down a coiled cord, which is exactly why they keep working where wireless sets stop.
Should you buy these or a wireless set?
Buy these if you hunt surf, rivers, or wet sand and need audio that survives immersion. Skip them if you mostly hunt dry land and want to lose the cable, in which case the Minelab ML 80 Bluetooth headphones with aptX Low Latency are the better match, though they are not submersible. If you only need a basic land pair, the Minelab wired headphones with a 3.5mm jack cost less. Already own a set of premium 1/4-inch cans? The Minelab 1/4" to 1/8" adapter cable will get them onto your detector, but it will not make them waterproof.
How they work in the water
The whole assembly is sealed, connector included, so the failure point that kills ordinary headphones at the beach is designed out. Sand and saltwater are as much of a threat as immersion itself, and a vented land headphone will corrode or short after a season of surf hunting. Because the connection is wired, there is no pairing step and no latency: you hear the target the instant the coil passes it, which matters when you are working a wave line and only get one pass before the next surge.
These also connect to a Minelab WM 08 Wireless Audio Module if you already run one, which lets you keep the waterproof cups while moving the wireless link up to the module.
Detector compatibility
Minelab lists these headphones as compatible with the following. The connector is the Equinox-style sealed 3.5mm fitting, so machines outside this list will not accept it directly.
- MANTICORE
- EQUINOX series
- X-TERRA ELITE
- X-TERRA PRO
- VANQUISH 60 series
